Every single cell in your body has its own internal clock(s) to coordinate cell metabolism, repair mechanisms and other important functions. But there is one “master clock” in the body which might be in control of all the others to sync them up, located in the suprachiasmatic nucleus in the hypothalamus region. It is also related to sleeping and eating patterns as well as to various organ functions. 

Jet lags could desynchronize this important pacemaker and cause various of dysfunctions. Therefore, it is important to understand how this rhythm triggered communication within the body and its environment works.
